Reddy Bikeshare Launches 11th Season with new Station at Wilkeson Pointe
Season launch planned to support the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball tournament in Buffalo
Reddy Bikeshare, in partnership with Independent Health, is rolling into its 11th season days before the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament, which is expected to bring approximately 19,000 visitors to downtown Buffalo. Reddy’s fleet of 520 traditional and pedal-assist e-bikes offers an easy way for visitors to explore the region between games running from March 19 and March 21.
Since launching in 2016, bikeshare has become an increasingly popular way for residents and visitors to get around Buffalo & Niagara Falls, with record-breaking usage the past few years. In 2025, people unlocked Reddy Bikes 81,116 times, logging a combined 136,500 miles—the highest annual totals in the system’s history.
Demand has been especially strong along Buffalo’s waterfront. In fuelling that growth, Reddy Bikeshare added a new bikeshare station at Wilkeson Pointe, which reopened last August following major improvements. The station, the third located within the Outer Harbor, will make it easier for residents and visitors to bike along the waterfront and connect to the region’s growing trail network.
“For the last decade, our season launches have been the signal that spring weather is approaching,” said Simon Husted of Reddy Bikeshare. “Every year, more people are unlocking the life hack of using bikeshare as an easy and low-cost way of staying active and traveling to destinations with less stress.”
Reddy is one of the longest running bikeshare networks in the country and this year the teams at REDDY and Independent Health are planning to celebrate the homegrown bikeshare system’s 10-year-birthday on its official anniversary: July 21, 2026.
“We are thrilled by how the Reddy Bikeshare program has grown and become such a valued, healthy, and eco-friendly transportation choice for Western New Yorkers and visitors alike,” said Kathy Glieco, Vice President of Marketing at Independent Health. “Now entering its 11th season, ongoing research confirms that cycling and choosing to commute actively by bike play a significant role in making our region more livable and healthier overall. With our deep local connections, Independent Health is dedicated to supporting the vitality of Western New York, and the new station at Wilkenson Pointe aligns perfectly with our existing partnership with Outer Harbor which offers healthy activities like kayaking, park golf, the Independent Health Wellness Trail, and Lakeside Bike Park.”
The new season also brings two new partnerships with major employers and institutions. Reddy Bikeshare is launching new programs with ECMC and Canisius University that will provide free annual bikeshare passes to employees and students.
These partnerships build on existing programs with M&T Bank, Viridi, Erie County, the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, and the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, helping thousands of workers across the region access biking as an affordable wellness perk and a transportation option.
Stay tuned for news later this Spring on Reddy Bikeshare’s plans to celebrate its upcoming 10-year birthday! The Reddy Team not only expects record of usage in 2026, but also a record number of users logging their own personal best in mileage.
For the fourth year in a row, Reddy Bikeshare is bringing back its 100-Mile Challenge, giving awards to riders who log at least 100 miles on the bikeshare network before the end of summer, Sept., 21.
Last year, 119 riders reached that milestone, and this year’s goal is to get to at least 130 riders. Participants receive $10 in rider credit added to their bikeshare account and will be entered to win prizes at Biketober Bash, the organization’s annual end-of-season celebration.
Reddy Bikeshare is proud to be among the most affordable bikeshare programs nationwide. Riders can start riding by scanning the QR code on the back of any bike or by visiting Reddy’s website at reddybikeshare.com. Locations of all Reddy Bikes and Reddy+ Bikes–the name of the pedal assist e-bikes, can be found in real time on the SoBi App or on Reddy’s website.
