PHOTOS: Celebrating REDDY BIKESHARE’s 10th & BEST YEAR
2025 marks a big milestone — 10 years of bikeshare in the 716, and our most active year yet! With a few weeks left before we pack up the bikes, riders have already logged more than 81,000 trips and 129,000 miles — surpassing last year’s totals and proving once again that Buffalo rides strong.
Earlier this week, Independent Health and the Reddy Team hosted Biketober Bash III — our annual fall celebration at the Buffalo History Museum. Each year, this event is our way of saying thank you to the riders who inspire others to discover the life-hack of bikeshare — moving more, driving less, and feeling great doing it.
This year’s Bash also wrapped up our 100-Mile Challenge and season-long leaderboard contest, which run from opening day through September 21. Last year, 103 riders crossed that 100-mile mark and earned $10 in riding credits. This year, 119 riders crushed the challenge, earning the riding credit and a limited-edition patch to celebrate their achievement! Those who couldn’t attend the Bash can still claim their patch by emailing simon@reddybikeshare.com.
Everyone who completed the challenge was also entered into a drawing to win awesome prizes — like a Slow Roll Buffalo Bike Poncho or a pair of waterproof panniers donated by Cleverhood.
In partnership with Independent Health, we also recognized the top 10 riders who logged the most miles this season with a prize pack and an award mapping out all their trips. The competition at the top was fierce — at one point this summer, less than 100 miles separated first and second place! Together, the top riders went the extra (thousand) mile, with both surpassing the 2,000-mile mark — the most ever logged in a single year.
🏆 First place: Mike Nogle, who has dominated the leaderboard for three years running, set a new record with 2,916 miles! He earned a $250 Amazon gift card and a custom-built helmet courtesy of Buffalo-based manufacturer KAV. Mike uses bikeshare as a source of exercise and transportation. Mike’s wife, Rosaleen, is a long-time Annual Pass user, and Mike started routinely using the Red bikes after learning about the leaderboard contest and a desire to drop weight. Last year, WKBW Channel 7 News did a profile of Mike’s quest to log miles. See link. Earlier this year, Mike pledged to give anyone who could beat his mile count this year $200. And although came out on top, Mike still gave the second place winner $200 at the event because the competition drove him to add another 1,000 miles on the bikeshare network this year!
🚴♂️ Second place: Thomas, who also broke the 2,000-mile barrier, rode away with an e-bike of his own! It’s a fitting prize because no other bikeshare user in the 716 has logged more miles on our e-bike fleet than Thomas. Earlier this year, Thomas applied to our WNY E-Bike Library Rebate Pilot Program, launched this spring with support from Independent Health and Ford Philanthropy. Through the program he earned a $650 rebate toward the purchase of an e-bike. Then, when the teams at GObike and Reddy saw his dedication and impressive mileage on the Reddy+ fleet, we decided to go the extra mile ourselves — funding the remaining cost of an Aventon Soltera e-bike and personally delivering it to him during the event!
As we wrap up our 10th season, one thing’s clear — Buffalo’s love for bikeshare keeps growing. Thank you to everyone who pedaled with us this year, and here’s to another decade of movement, community, and miles of smiles. ❤️
Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Buffalo History Museum for the party, and to our partner Independent Health who helps us award prizes and throw parties to users who pedal the extra mile.
