Ten years ago, Buffalo welcomed a new way to get around. Today, we're celebrating a decade of Reddy Bikeshare the best way we know how—by giving back to the riders who've made it all possible.
On Tuesday, July 21, Reddy Bikeshare officially celebrates its 10th Birthday, and we're saying THANK YOU to the riders who've helped make the last decade unforgettable—with free rides, free food, and plenty of reasons to celebrate.
🚲 Ride More. Pay Less.
As part of our celebration: we’re convening our biggest promotion of free rides ever. It all kicks off on SkyRide, Sunday, July 19, when every rider with an Annual Plan—whether it's through one of our discount programs, a traditional $40 Annual Pass, or an employer-sponsored membership—will receive their first 100 minutes of riding FREE every day.
Our Birthday Week promotion continues through our Niagara Falls Pedal Party on Friday, July 24, and wraps up at the end of day on Saturday, July 25. That means a full week of riding on us—including our official birthday on Tuesday, July 21.
"There’s about 150 communities with bikeshare systems, but only a few dozen of them have reached the 10-year milestone," said Simon Husted. "Costs on just about everything has gone up in those ten years, but we’re proud to keep the price of bikeshare the same—and in many cases, we've actually made it even more affordable for Western New Yorkers to use. That's only been possible because of our incredible, long-standing partnership with Independent Health."
Reddy is owned and operated by Shared Mobility Inc., a Buffalo-based nonprofit organization that was one of the first organizations in the nation to pilot GPS-equipped bikeshare back in 2012. With Independent Health’s partnership, the pilot in Buffalo evolved into Reddy Bikeshare and has been helping Western New Yorkers discover a better way to get around since 2016. Bikeshare usage has grown steadily since. Last year, Reddy users made more than 88,000 trips and pedaled more than 136,000 miles. The current year is on track to beat that record!
🌮 Birthday Bikes + Food Truck Tuesday = The Perfect Combo
This year, our birthday falls on Food Truck Tuesday at Larkin Square—another beloved Buffalo tradition that celebrated its own 10th anniversary in 2023.
To mark the occasion, the first 25 riders who stop by the Reddy Bikeshare table beginning at 5:00 PM and show they've ridden 10 or more miles this year will receive a $10 coupon to use toward a meal or sweet treat from a participating food truck.
Want to earn your coupon with friends? Join Team Reddy for a fun 2-mile community ride to Larkin Square. We'll meet at the Roosevelt Plaza Reddy Bikeshare station downtown and roll out around 5:30 PM. Our team will hand out coupons for people who use a Reddy Bike on the ride!
