Health and Wellness Challenge adding more rewards to an active lifestyle

The Reddy Bikeshare team, in partnership with Independent Health, is proud how Buffalo and Niagara Falls stand out as having one of the most affordable bikeshare services in the nation. In fact, the price of subscribing and using is often so low, a member can feasibly earn a bigger return by competing in something likethe upcoming Independent Health and Buffalo Bills Health & Wellness Challenge.

Independent Health and Buffalo Bills are launching a 6-week online contest April 25 that rewards folks with prizes for active living and healthy eating habits—and it all comes in time for National Bike Month. The contest runs through June 5th and participants can win one of 26 prizes at the end, including one grand prize that includes four Buffalo Bills home game tickets and a $1,000 Visa Card.

Contestants are asked to earn points through logging daily challenges, special activity tasks and routine physical activity. The last part can be automatically tracked through a smart phone app or other device like a Fit Bit.

I’m known to brag often of living an active lifestyle year round, usually biking between 3 and 10 miles every day and up to triple the mileage in the warmer half of the year. If you enjoy commuting by bike like I do, it is worth signing up for the contest, and it is very simple. It only takes 25 points to qualify for the drawing and I earned 417 points on my first weekday. The more points you earn, the greater your chance at winning a prize, including the grand prize. Visit this Webpage for instructions and contest rules. I used Samsung Health and Starva to track my bike and walking activity. (Apple users can use the Apple Health app, which has similar functions.)

Users must download the Wellable App to compete in the Independent Health and Buffalo Bills Health & Wellness Challenge.

This contest isn’t just for the bicyclists, of course. There’s many ways to earn points, including joining one or more of the Monday Night Fitness classes hosted by Independent Health and the Buffalo Bills. The boot camps take place 6 p.m. inside the ADPRO Sports Training Center at 1 Bills Drive Orchard Park, New York 14127, on April 25, May 2 and May 9.

All that said, replacing car commutes with bike commutes is a fast and easy way to earn points. If you don’t own a working bike at the moment, consider starting an annual Reddy Bikeshare membership. Through the end of April, we’re cutting the season subscription cost of $55 in half with the promo code REDDY22. Even if you don’t end up winning a prize, you will likely earn that $27.50 back by spending less gas.
